41% of tenants create ‘issues’ – and leave £210 of repairs when they go

We stumbled across a recent article. It reads: “41% of tenants create ‘issues’ – and leave £210 of repairs when they go”

An alarming statistic as the cost of maintaining and improving a rental property increases.

A recent survey suggests that 40 per cent of tenants have ‘issues’ with their Landlord when they check out because they leave the property requiring an average of £210 to be spent on repairs and maintenance.

  • A study of 2,302 Britons aged 18 or over who own at least one rental property revealed the following:
  • 62% felt that renting a property was a financially positive experience as the rent covered the monthly mortgage payments.
  • Twenty five per cent felt uneasy because they had limited control over how tenants treat their home; and
  • 13% stated that they regret letting their property due to bad experiences with past tenants.

When asked if they had ever experienced issues with their tenants, over two fifths admitted that ‘they have. The top 5 issues were:

– Tenants getting in touch too often about minor or imagined issues (58%);

– Tenants making modifications in the home without gaining permission (41%);

– Neighbours complaining about tenants (26%);

– Tenants causing damage and expecting landlord to cover costs (23%);

– Tenants not paying rent on time (18%).
