Nicholas Lambrou, Sheffield Franchisee
Previous sector experience:
Worked within financial services

Started trading: August 2017

Reason for choosing a Nicholas Humphreys franchise: I wanted to work for myself and make a real difference in the market. Nicholas Humphreys made it possible for me to do this. I chose Nicholas Humphreys over other franchisors because the franchise fee is reinvested in me and my business with a strong support network for now and into the future.

Vision: To be the trusted estate agency in Sheffield, most customer focussed and be the agency that delivers results to Landlords and helps tenants find their new homes.

Personal goal: To be the most respected and leading business in Sheffield. I want to continue enjoying the work that I do and jump out of bed every morning without an alarm clock. Job satisfaction is so important to me. I want to earn a great income and support my family but put something back into the community at the same time.

Advice to prospective franchisees: Put your faith in those within the franchise who support you. There's no need to make mistakes as they have already been done by somebody else. Be proud of the Nicholas Humphreys brand and believe that you and your business can make a real difference. Be persistant and never let a a bad day get you down. This is a great opportunity.

Nicholas’s figures:

Ben Lacey, Portsmouth Franchisee
Previous sector experience:
Worked within IT and a Masters Degree in HR

Started trading: December 2017

Reason for choosing a Nicholas Humphreys franchise: I chose the franchise route as I felt that having the backing and support of a national brand would be valuable when initially launching the business. I chose Nicholas Humphreys because of the level of support provided, and because of the knowledge that the franchise team have.

Vision: I would like to recruit a member of staff within the next 6 months. My goal is to ensure that I continue to grow the business without compromising on service. I’d like to see Nicholas Humphreys boards lining every popular student road in Portsmouth! I would also like to expand into residential lettings and sales in the future.

Challenges so far: The most challenging aspect of my launch has been keeping up with its pace. My initial week was spent generating business and the weeks that followed have involved juggling a variety of tasks whilst trying to ensure that I give my landlords, tenants and applicants the best service that I can. The support provided by Nicholas Humphreys in the launch period has been very useful in helping me to manage my workload and to ensure that I am able to remain competitive on service.

Advice to prospective franchisees: Ensure that you thoroughly look into the franchisor’s offering. Make sure that you ask about the support that is provided during the initial stages of the franchise. Ask the franchisor every question that you can think of, they have heard them all before and asking the question avoids any nasty surprises further down the line. Speak to other franchisees about their highs, lows and thoughts on the franchise, and how being part of a franchise network has helped their business. My advice would be to ensure that there is sufficient support in the initial stages of the business to ensure its success. Speak to the existing franchisees about their experiences, particularly those who have just launched and those who have been running their business for a longer period of time.

Ben’s figures:

• First Months' Income - Over £2800
Winner of Best Newcomer at the 2017 Franchise Awards
