Make Your Move-In Day Stress-Free

Move-in day is an exciting milestone, and a little preparation makes settling in much easier. This quick checklist will help you stay organised so you can feel at home from the moment you arrive.

Get started by exploring available properties or contacting your nearest Nicholas Humphreys branch.

Make sure your tenancy steps are fully completed so your move-in is not delayed:

  • Right to rent check completed
  • Deposit paid
  • Guarantor details provided
  • All required documents submitted
  • Move-in appointment booked with your local branch

Keys cannot be released until every tenant on the joint tenancy has completed all requirements.

Pack the key items you will need for your new home, including:

  • Bedding, pillows and towels
  • Toiletries and cleaning supplies
  • Kitchen essentials such as plates, pans and cutlery
  • Laptop, chargers and study materials
  • Clothes, hangers and storage boxes

Planning together with your housemates makes settling in easier and helps create a comfortable shared home from day one.

Once you collect your keys and enter the property, take a moment to check everything thoroughly:

  • Review the inventory report
  • Photograph any marks, wear or missing items
  • Test the heating, hot water and appliances
  • Check smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
  • Take meter readings for gas, electric and water

Report any issues promptly through the correct channel.

If bills are not included in your rent, you may need to set up:

  • Gas and electricity accounts
  • Water services
  • Broadband or Wi Fi
  • TV licence if required

Decide with your housemates who will manage each bill and keep everything organised.

Once you are moved in, take a few steps to keep your home running smoothly:

  • Agree on a simple cleaning routine
  • Find your rubbish and recycling collection dates
  • Keep shared spaces tidy and respectful
  • Report repairs through the online maintenance system

If your property is fully managed by Nicholas Humphreys, your dedicated property manager will be your main point of contact throughout your tenancy.
